DIVA ADHD - Improving Adult ADHD Diagnosis

DIVA is an interview with a semistructured format that was developed to enhance ADHD assessment in adults. This study will evaluate the reliability of the criteria used to determine DIVA 2.0 and its concurrent validity in comparison with Conners Adult ADHD Diagnostic Interview for DSM-IV (CAADID) criteria.

Compared to the top 20 attributes, DIVA attributes that correlate strongest with diagnosis are attention deficit for both childhood and adulthood and hyperactivity/impulsivity for adults, followed by CAARS ADHD TT1 score and IOWA personality disorders evaluation.

Signs and symptoms

The symptoms of ADD/ADHD can affect every area of life, from relationships and career progression to the everyday tasks that are part of our lives. That's why it is so crucial that our ADHD assessments adopt a holistic approach and look at how the symptoms affect every aspect of our lives. Dr. Schilling will begin by assessing your symptoms and medical history. assessment adhd will then conduct an DIVA 5 assessment. This is a semi-structured interview which evaluates both the main symptoms and the impact of ADD/ADHD on your life.

The DIVA is an interview tool for diagnosing ADHD. It was developed by psychiatrists and psychologists to assess adult ADHD symptoms. It has been proven to have a high sensitivity to sound and specificity. It is highly effective at identifying those who have the disorder. It can increase awareness and help diagnose adult ADHD in Korea because it is the only validated semistructured diagnostic interview available in the country.

To conduct the DIVA the trained clinician typically psychologists or psychiatrists will ask questions about the main symptoms of ADHD, including inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. The clinician will also delve into the person's past, looking at their childhood experiences and how they may have affected their current behaviours. This is because the symptoms of ADHD aren't something that just happens to appear in a flash, they manifest throughout the teen years, and through adulthood.

The DIVA can detect ADHD due to its consideration of both the DSM-IV ADHD criteria during childhood and into adulthood and how these signs have affected the individual's daily functioning across five different areas - education, employment relations with family/partners and leisure/social activities, as well as confidence and self-esteem. Other screening tools, like the WURS brief that was compared with the CAADID demonstrated low sensitivity and negative predictive value.

Diagnosis

In order to determine the presence of ADHD in adults, it is important to assess the symptoms and their causes. This can be accomplished through a comprehensive interview about childhood symptoms as well as a neurocognitive assessment. It is crucial to think about the impact that the symptoms can have on a person's job and daily life. This can be assessed by conducting a structured interview, the DIVA and, in certain instances, getting information from family members and friends.

The DIVA is a semi-structured interview that was first developed for use with adults in the Netherlands. It has been updated for use with adult patients in other countries including Korea. This study evaluated the criterion validity of the Korean version of DIVA (DIVA-5) in an adult clinical sample with ADHD.

During the DIVA the clinician will ask about ADHD symptoms in the early years and in adulthood. They will also inquire about the age at which they first noticed symptoms and the extent of impairment triggered by these symptoms. assessed for adhd collects diverse set of sociodemographic data and asks about any psychiatric or comorbidity.

Patients were examined for psychiatric comorbidity using the MINI-S plus version 5.0.0, the Brief Alcohol Related Neuropsychological Impairment Screening Instrument (BEARNI) and the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB). Two psychiatrists who are experienced employed the structured diagnostic interview DIVA-5 to establish a diagnosis of ADHD. They assessed symptoms both in adulthood and childhood and determined the length of symptoms.

The sensitivity and specificity of DIVA-5 was found to be high for both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms in childhood and adulthood. The diagnostic tool was demonstrated to have good concurrent validity with the WURS scale and fair concurrent validity with three self-report rating instruments: the ASRS, FAB, and Sheehan's Dysfunction Inventory.

The sensitivity and specificity of the DIVA-5 was found to be high for all subtypes of ADHD in both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity in adulthood and during childhood. The accuracy of the DIVA-5's diagnosis was found to be comparable to the accuracy of clinical diagnoses given by two psychiatrists. This was in line both with the sensitivity and specificity of earlier screening tools like ASRS and WURS.

Treatment

If you have an undiagnosed ADHD it could significantly affect your life. It can affect many aspects, from relationships to academic progress and work to the simple tasks of organising your day-to-day life. A diagnosis can help you determine your strengths and weaknesses and also provide solutions to help you manage your symptoms and mechanisms.

A licensed clinician, usually psychologist or psychiatrist, will conduct an in-depth interview with you about your current symptoms using the DIVA-5 assessment tool. This will involve asking standardised questions about your levels hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity. It will also look into your personal history, including your childhood experiences, in order to obtain a complete picture of your symptoms and their impacts on your life.

This approach is crucial to ensure a thorough diagnosis of adult ADHD. It also allows us to determine the root of your symptoms, which can help inform your treatment.

The DIVA assessment is a highly effective way of diagnosing adult ADHD and has high sensitivity and specificity. It has also been shown to be a good criterion-validated test when compared with self-report scales like the Wender Utah Rating Scales (WURS) or the ADHD-Rating Scale. It has good concurrent validity these and fair validity with Sheehan's Dysfunction Inventory.

Contrary to the more conventional methods for assessing ADHD in adults, the DIVA test is focused on identifying and discussing the symptoms that occur both during childhood and in adulthood, thus increasing the accuracy of the diagnosis and enabling an accurate comparison between the sociodemographic characteristics of both groups. The DIVA assessment also permits consideration of the effect of co-existing disorders on the manifestation and severity of ADHD symptoms.

If your Psychologist does not prescribe medication, you may need to schedule an appointment with a psychiatrist or Paediatrician for further evaluation and/or treatment. They can then refer you to a specialist Psychologist for further in-depth evaluation of your symptoms, and to assess for co-occurring diagnoses and differentials. This includes assessing for comorbid conditions like anxiety and depression. This will help your Psychologist suggest a suitable treatment plan.

Getting Started

Being diagnosed with ADHD can be life-changing and provide explanations for lingering difficulties and opening doors to effective treatment options.
