WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrade r enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with numerous new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is even if the items come from another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
