World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's capable of causing. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories on how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that various perks have different value, and also that gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the area the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or other special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by naming them.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is a unique item or a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the early game as opposed to later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

upgrade gear can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be bought in the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%.

The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
