Patio Gas Versus Butane and Propane<br /><br />Patio heaters are a fantastic option to provide a warm and comfortable temperature to your outdoor spaces, enabling you to increase the use of your outdoor space. Butane has lower boiling point than propane and is suitable for use in cooler temperatures. Propane is a better choice for outdoor heating and cooking because it burns at a high temperature.<br /><br />All leisure appliances that run on gasoline bottled are fitted with a regulator that reduces the pressure at which gas releases from the cylinder. This helps prevent the cylinder from blowing out when you open it. It also prevents your appliances from working too quickly. Regulators can be screw-on or clip-on and come in different sizes to accommodate different types of cylinders. Failure to do so could result in fines, penalties and/or the confiscation or destruction of the cylinder that is leaking.<br /><br />Although it isn't a common occurrence, butane abuse can cause death due to asphyxia or cardiac arrhythmia. This can occur when butane is sniffed as part of an in-home propellant. In two cases of deliberate butane inhalation autopsies have revealed changes in the lungs and heart caused by butane. These changes are due to the penetration of butane through the alveoli and pulmonary mucosa. These findings were confirmed by histological studies. Intentional butane abuse is also associated with a high morbidity rate among children.<br /><br />What is Propane?<br /><br />Propane, also known as LPG or liquefied petroleum gas (C3H8), is an hydrocarbon gas. It's a clean and safe energy source that can be used for a variety of purposes, from heating homes and cooking to powering appliances and vehicles. Propane is produced by the refining of crude oil and natural gas in roughly equal quantities. It's nontoxic, colorless and virtually odorless, so producers add an odorant dubbed the ethylmercaptan to help detect leaks.<br /><br />Propane can exist in gaseous form at room temperature, but when pressurized it becomes a liquid. Propane can be transported in a safe and easily, and it is stored underground in tanks under controlled conditions. It's then distributed to businesses, homeowners and other customers through a network of pipelines, barges, tanker trucks and railcars.<br /><br />While propane is a good option for a range of commercial and residential applications it is especially suited to outdoor uses. It can power outdoor facilities such as grills, patio heaters, and fire pits. It can also be used as a backup source of energy during power outages. And propane is environmentally friendly, producing fewer harmful emissions than any other fossil fuel when burned.<br /><br />The versatility of propane has been a major part of American life. But what do you know about the method by which it gets from its natural sources to your home?<br /><br />Propane is a byproduct from natural gas processing and crude oil refining, and can be found in both underground and aboveground storage facilities. Distributed to natural gas processing facilities as well as to homes through a network comprised of truckers, pipelines, and railroad cars. After it has been liquefied, it can be stored and transported via small portable tanks. This low-cost, clean fuel is a great option for both residential and commercial uses. It's also beneficial in rural areas where access to other types of fuel is a challenge. In fact propane is so plentiful that the United States is now a net exporter of this renewable energy source.<br /><br />Which Bottle Do I Need?<br /><br />Both propane and butane are equally well with your BBQ or patio heater. The type of appliance you use will determine the size and type of gas bottle you choose to use. Propane is stored in green bottles that are specifically designed for outdoor appliances like BBQs and patio heaters They are compatible with a 27mm clip on regulator. Butane comes in blue bottles and is most commonly used with camp stoves and one-burner cookers. They also have a screw-on regulator.<br /><br />Gas regulators are fitted on all gas cylinders for leisure use. They lower the pressure and regulate the amount of gas being dispensed. This ensures that the cylinder doesn't get emptied too quickly and can cause damage to the appliance. You need to choose a gas regulator that is compatible with the cylinder you are using (propane or butane) because their regulator valves are different. Propane and butane require to be released at different pressure levels which is why they cannot be switched between appliances without swapping the regulator.<br /><br />Gas cylinders usually have an indicator that will let you know when the gas is running low. Pouring warm water on top of the cylinder can aid in checking the level. This will cause the temperature to fluctuate and give you a good idea of how much fuel is left.
