How to throw a Halloween party that is as sophisticated as it is spooky

Just because the season of fake spider webs and all-pumpkin everything is here doesn't mean your Halloween party decor can't be a tad more refined this year. Below you'll find a dash of inspiration for brewing up a festive party that embraces the season with a stylish spin.

Experiment with lighting

Instead of frightening decorations, conjure up a spookier atmosphere by limiting your light sources. Skip the overhead lamp at the dinner table in favor of candles—traditional or antique style candlestick holders work best.

Upgrade your bar cart

Always a welcome addition to any party, a bar cart makes for a festive place to mingle and serve up spooky cocktails. Style it with subtle Halloween decor, like metallic pumpkins and autumnal floral arrangements, if you don't want to deck out your entire entertaining area.

Up the fright factor with antiques

Even if they don't seem scary on their own, old objects like clocks and masks can add an eerily antiquated note to your tablescape. Situate antique items around candles and flower arrangements at the dinner table. Not only do they add extra texture and a mysterious mood to your tablescape, but they're also fantastic conversation starters among your guests as they dine.

Get creative with cocktails

Martini glasses? Not this year. Spice up your glassware this Halloween by swapping typical glasses for vials. For extra frightening flare, paint inexpensive candelabras black and place the vials inside (if you need to, remove the metal candle cup to help the glass bottles fit).
