Vacuuming With a Robot Hoover is the Best Hands-Off Model We've Tested

This high-end bot from Eufy is the most hands-free model we've tested so far. It vacuums, mops and self-empties its bin, washes and dries mop pads without you having to do anything.

It's not equipped with the latest cleaning techniques and a bigger docking station, but it delivers stellar performance at a fraction of the cost of premium robot vacuums. automatic vacuum features a compact design that can reach under furniture.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming with a robot is a fast, simple way to keep your floors looking and feeling clean. A lot of the models we've picked are built to run without any involvement from you, so you can set them up to clean while you're away, or even trigger an appointment from your phone. However, you'll want to choose a model that has excellent navigation and obstacle detection to ensure that it will not be stuck on the stairs or underneath furniture.

Some models are better at removing pet hairs from rugs than others, which is why it's also important to choose a robot that can efficiently and effectively vacuum all types of flooring. Choose a model that has a dust bins that is able to hold plenty of dirt between emptyings and an nozzle that doesn't lose suction as it rotates to remove debris.

The majority of robots require little or no maintenance, other than taking out tangled fur from the rotating brush after each cleaning session (and wiping its camera or sensors when required) and periodically emptying the bin or using the robot's self-emptying base. If you follow these simple maintenance steps, your robot vacuum will last as long as full-size vacuums and keep your home cleaner for longer.

While robot mops are generally less flexible than their vacuum counterparts, some have the added ability to suck up spills and puddles while doing their thing. The iLife V3s Pro, a great example of machine, is an excellent choice for those with carpets and rugs as well as wood floors. It's quiet and has solid navigation capabilities that allowed it to overcome obstacles during testing, and the charging dock can also double as a trash bin.

To get the best results, choose a robot that can handle both vacuuming and mopping at the same time. That's what the Karcher RCV 5 does, and it also offers additional useful features, such as a live camera that broadcasts an image that is grainy to your app so that you can check on your pet or kids as well as an easily programmable remote control. Its navigation isn't as solid as other models in our collection however it is able to lift itself over low thresholds and has an ample 500ml dustbin that doesn't need to be emptied often.

Mopping

Robots that vacuum and mops are relatively new to the market. These machines are more expensive and require an additional tank of water than standalone robots. However, they may be worth the extra expense for those who have staining that is difficult to clean or pets.

The best robots that vacuum and mop also be very effective in cleaning floors that are not clean and carpets. Many brands are now offering all-in-one machines that can do both jobs extremely well. The Combo J9+, for example, is one of the best mopping robots we've tested and uses an impressively large dock that can accommodate up to 60 days of dirt. This is a significant improvement over the Qrevo Pro which ran out water after mopping only 30 days of dirt during our tests.

The Tapo RV30 plus from networking giant TP-Link is another very good two-in-one. It's quiet, compact, and has a clean, fuss-free appearance. In our test rooms, it cleaned the floors thoroughly and accurately - it was particularly good on rugs but it took several runs to completely clean some areas of soiled wood. Its LIDAR navigation system works very well, avoiding bumps into furniture or running over power cords.

It's a bit sluggish on the stairs however, that's to be expected from a compact robot designed to overcome obstacles. Its only downside is its mopping pad attachment which was a challenge and didn't stay in place during our tests. It also has a problem dealing with dried-on dust, making it more like an ordinary vacuum cleaner than a robot mop.

It's still a great choice for those who prefer a hands-off experience and want to clean low pile or unfinished carpets equally. It had a good amount of suction that allowed it to remove fine dust from pet hair and carpets. Automatic carpet recognition is a wonderful feature because it boosts the vacuuming power to take on dirt that is embedded. It is simple to use and the charging dock automatically emptyes the trash bin when it's full. This is a fantastic feature for apartment dwellers.

Cleaning apps

Nearly every robot vacuum mop, sweeper, or mop comes with an application that lets you personalize cleaning routines, pick rooms to clean, plan cleaning sessions, and alter settings such as suction, water level, and the power of scrubbing. Certain robots also provide intelligent dirt detection, which makes use of past cleaning data and map information to prioritize areas of dirt and optimize cleaning mode.

A smartphone app can also allow you to set up virtual barriers and no-go zones to protect your robot from potentially hazardous items such as cords or pet water bowls and sharp objects. Certain models let you create these virtual barriers using laser navigation sensors, and others have small physical barriers or boundary strips you can place wherever you want to block your floor.

There are still hazards to be aware of even though the top robot vacuums can detect and navigate around obstacles. The principal brush of a robot could get stuck in long cords or curtains and stop it from moving. To prevent this from happening, you can rid the area of cords and tie up any curtains that are long.

Some robots will automatically update the software that controls their navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithms, which enhances performance and reduces wear and tear on the robot's internal components. It is a good idea to periodically check the website of the manufacturer as well as the app on your robot for updates to the firmware.

If you have a large home, you should consider models that offer multiple cleaning modes. The iRobot Roomba 11S Max can sweep and vacuum carpeted and hard floors with different suction settings. It can also automatically switch the power setting to the highest level when cleaning carpets, and also boost its scrubbing strength by using SmartScrub.

A robot that has the ability to speak is a great option when you want to keep your hands-free. The iRobot Roomba 980, for instance, can be controlled using a simple voice command from Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant. It comes with a compact self-emptying docking system as well as a powerful cleaning motor that makes your floors sparkling.
