For one, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.<br /><br />It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.<br /><br />2. IRobot Roomba<br /><br />The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).<br /><br />It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.<br /><br />The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.<br /><br />Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas are.<br /><br />For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.<br /><br />5. iRobot Roomba RX3<br /><br />The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.<br /><br />The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance.
