Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean<br /><br />CLKs' understanding and ability to draw on relational affordances and the learner-internal aspects, were crucial. RIs from TS and ZL for instance were able to cite their relationship with their local professor as a major factor in their decision to stay clear of criticising a strict prof (see the example 2).<br /><br />This article reviews all local published practical research on Korean until 2020. It focuses on pragmatic fundamental topics like:<br /><br />Discourse Construction Tests<br /><br />The discourse completion test is a common tool in the field of pragmatic research. It has many advantages, but also some disadvantages. For example, the DCT cannot account for cultural and personal differences in communicative behavior. Additionally, the DCT is susceptible to bias and may lead to overgeneralizations. Therefore, it should be analyzed carefully before it is used for research or for assessment purposes.<br /><br />Despite its limitations, the DCT is a valuable tool for analyzing the relationship between prosody, information structure and non-native speakers. Its ability in two or more stages to manipulate social variables that affect politeness could be a benefit. This ability can be used to study the role of prosody in different cultural contexts.<br /><br />In the field of linguistics DCT is among the most effective tools used to analyze the communication habits of learners. It can be used to analyze many issues, such as manner of speaking, turn-taking, and lexical choices. It can also be used to assess the phonological difficulty of learners speaking.<br /><br />A recent study used an DCT to assess EFL students' ability to resist. Participants were presented with a range of scenarios to choose from and then asked to choose the most appropriate response. The authors found that the DCT was more efficient than other methods of refusal such as a questionnaire or video recordings. However, the researchers warned that the DCT should be employed with caution and include other types of data collection methods.<br /><br />DCTs can be developed using specific linguistic criteria, such as form and content. These criteria are based on intuition and based upon the assumptions of test developers. They aren't always correct, and they could be misleading about the way ELF learners actually resist requests in actual interactions. This issue calls for further studies of alternative methods of assessing the ability to refuse.<br /><br /><br /><br />In a recent research study, DCT responses to student requests via email were compared with those from an oral DCT. The results showed that DCTs preferred more direct and conventionally indirect request forms and used more hints than email data.<br /><br />Metapragmatic Questionnaires (MQs)<br /><br />This study explored Chinese learners' choices when it comes to using Korean through a variety of experimental tools, such as Discourse Completion Tasks (DCTs) Metapragmatic Questionnaires, Refusal Interviews (RIs). Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate proficiency who gave responses to DCTs and MQs. They were also asked to reflect on their evaluation and refusal responses in RIs. The results revealed that CLKs were more likely to reject native Korean pragmatic norms, and their choices were influenced by four main factors that included their personalities, multilingual identities, their ongoing life histories, and relational benefits. These findings have implications for pedagogy for L2 Korean assessment.<br /><br />First, the MQ data were examined to identify the participants' rational choices. The data were classified according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, we compared the choices made by the participants with their linguistic performance on the DCTs in order to determine if they were a sign of a pragmatic resistance. The interviewees were asked to explain their choices of behavior in a specific situation.<br /><br />The findings of the MQs and DCTs were then examined using descriptive statistics and Z-tests. The CLKs were discovered to use euphemistic words like "sorry" or "thank you". This could be due to their lack of familiarity with the target languages, which led to a lack of knowledge of korean's pragmatic norms. The results revealed that CLKs' preferences to diverge from L1 and 2 norms or to be more convergent towards L1 norms varied based on the DCT circumstances. For instance, in Situations 3 and 12, the CLKs preferred to diverge from both L1 and L2 pragmatic norms while in Situation 14, they favored converging to L1 norms.<br /><br />The RIs revealed that CLKs knew about their pragmatic resistance to each DCT situation. RIs were conducted on a one-to-one basis within two days of participants completing the MQs. The RIs were recorded and transcribing, and then coded by two independent coders. Coding was an iterative process, in which the coders listened and discussed each transcript. The results of coding were evaluated against the original RI transcripts, which provided an indication of how well the RIs accurately portrayed the core behaviors.<br /><br />Refusal Interviews (RIs)<br /><br />The central issue in research on pragmatics is: Why do certain learners refuse to accept native-speaker norms? Recent research sought to answer this question using a variety of experimental tools including DCTs MQs and RIs. The participants comprised 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. They were asked to complete the DCTs in their first language and complete the MQs in either their L1 or their L2. They were then invited to an RI, where they were asked to reflect and discuss their responses to each DCT situation.<br /><br />The results showed that on average, the CLKs disapproved of the pragmatic norms of native speakers in more than 40% of their responses. They attributed their choices to learner-internal factors like their personalities and multilingual identities as well as ongoing life histories. They also referred external factors, like relational affordances. For instance, they discussed how their relationships with professors facilitated an easier performance with respect to the linguistic and intercultural norms of their university.<br /><br />However, the interviewees expressed concern about the social pressures and consequences that they might be subjected to if they strayed from their local social norms. They were worried that their local friends might consider them "foreigners" and believe they are incompetent. This was a concern similar to the concerns expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).<br /><br />These findings suggest that native-speaker pragmatic norms are no longer the default preference of Korean learners. They may still be useful for official Korean proficiency tests. Future researchers should reconsider the applicability of these tests in different cultural contexts and specific situations. This will allow them to better comprehend how different environments can affect the pragmatic behavior of L2 learners in the classroom and beyond. This will also help educators create better methods for teaching and testing Korean pragmatics. This method utilizes various sources of data, such as interviews, observations, and documents to support its findings. This type of investigation is ideal for studying specific or complex subjects which are difficult to assess using other methods.<br /><br />In a case study the first step is to define the subject and the purpose of the study. This will allow you to identify which aspects of the topic are important to investigate and which aspects can be left out. It is also beneficial to study the literature that is relevant to the subject to gain a greater understanding of the subject and place the case within a larger theoretical context.<br /><br />This study was based on an open-source platform, the KMMLU Leaderboard [50], and its Korean-specific benchmarks HyperCLOVA X, and LDCC Solar (figure 1 below). The results of this experiment revealed that L2 Korean learners were extremely dependent on the influence of native models. They were more likely to pick incorrect answer choices, which were literal interpretations. This was a deviation from accurate pragmatic inference. They also had a strong tendency of adding their own words or "garbage" to their responses. This also lowered the quality of their answers.<br /><br />The participants of this study were all L2 Korean students who had reached the level of four in the Test of Proficiency in Korean TOPIK in their second or third year of university and were hoping to reach level six by their next attempt. They were asked questions about their WTC/SPCC, their pragmatic awareness and understanding understanding of the world.<br /><br />Interviewees were presented with two scenarios that involved interaction with their co-workers and were asked to choose one of the strategies below to employ when making a demand. The interviewees were then asked to justify their choice. The majority of the participants attributed their lack of a pragmatic response to their personality. For example, TS claimed that she was hard to get close to, and so she refused to ask about the well-being of her friend with an intense workload despite the fact that she believed that native Koreans would do this.<br /><br />
