Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of many Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading the performance of them. They can be a great source of damage, more AD or even more attachments.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade equipment due to their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items that have upgrade components within them by with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. The upgrade of an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will increase the damage it absorbs. But, it's important to be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than before.

There are several different types of armor upgrade available in the game. Each has a different effect. Certain upgrades give armor an extra amount of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The kind of armor upgrade an item can get will be identified by the name of the upgrade as shown in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, which are shown by a "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades are updated every day or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is with Iron Ore, which can be found by exploring the environment and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive, but can be found at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can give players a significant improvements in stats and are worth the cost.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to its maximum upgrade level will greatly increase its defense values however, the user must be aware that putting more weight on it will drastically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The added defense usually isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of a weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells do. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the possibility of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration for greater damage) are two examples.

Most weapon upgrades require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade. These are obtained through either finishing side quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a certain amount of bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars are required to complete it. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a certain amount of Bars. You could continue to do this until you reach a maximum upgrade level for the equipment or weapon, following which upgrades would reset.

You can still do this however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and buying gear with low upgrade levels, but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These items have a greater likelihood of granting you highest level of blessings and perks.

To improve their skills faster, many players be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates use to boost their strength. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to increase a stat or provide secondary effects on weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is a method for making them, in which you combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the tier of the jewel, the better its secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ according to the tier that the jewel is in when it is inserted into weapons, jewelry, or other gear.

The Jeweler is able to create the highest levels of gems apart from the rare and legendary ones which require a certain level to get. Jewels can be substituted with another one without damaging the original. However, you can only replace one jewel in a piece of equipment once.

Using more jewels in a move can make it feel more comfortable and is typically done to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels can also enhance performance and make an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so that the repeated friction caused by pivots does not cause damage to them.

In addition to the upgrades mentioned above players can also obtain glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be freely swapped, but they're not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also scattered Crystal. Glyphs are also removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis cannot be swapped out, and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor, or by salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with a variety of small, but useful advantages. They are available in the starting area as loot or as personal story rewards. index can also be obtained through vendors and after doing road interaction. They can also be made by jewelers and later found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but beneficial boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. After that, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player acquires weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to be more effective while inactive and may also help make up for a lack of a solid team or the absence of any slots from the talent tree that normally are filled with the hero's best stats.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace soon. Next, any items that have desirable statistics aren't as important as the iLevel for the item that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats that you'd like to upgrade since it's generally better to upgrade just one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one at the beginning of the game. Top and mid players however they will select a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have an impact on the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items listed above, players will also discover other trinkets in form trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be obtained by completing certain milestones in the story. For instance, completing the main quest of a chapter or defeating a boss. You can check them out by selecting the achievement from the reward section of the hero's menu.
