Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a frequent and essential way to boost the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of damage, more AD or even more attachments.

Sometimes, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear because of their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item they're connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of the game and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrade components from items.

The amount of damage that an armored piece or weapon can absorb depends on the extent of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to maximum upgrade level will increase the damage it absorbs. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it should be heavier.

There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are that are available in the game and they all have different effects. Some upgrades give armor an additional number of health points, while others make it more powerful and lighter. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade an item can receive, as shown below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Some upgrades also require a charge to use, which is identified by the "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades are updated every day or never expire, according to the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the area and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more costly, however, it is available in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on armor pieces of the highest level. These upgrades can provide significant improvements in performance and are worth the investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to the maximum upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it will also affect its agility and its speed. For this reason, it is not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces that are higher than +9 since the added defense is generally not worth the additional weight and power cost of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of an weapon. For example an upgrade could improve the damage that is caused by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a sniper rifle. Certain weapons come with special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases the speed of projectiles to cause more damage).

The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. They can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain number of bosses and monsters.

Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a certain number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars required to complete it. The cost of upgrades will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your equipment and weapon sets has changed a bit. In the past you could search for an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher rarity. You could do this until you reached the maximum upgrade level for the equipment or weapon, following which upgrades would reset.

It's possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. It is better to purchase gear that has minimal upgrade levels, but high base scores and stat distributions. These will be able to give you the highest tier bonuses and blessings.

The majority of players will prioritize upgrades to the weapons they use most frequently to allow them to progress faster. Additionally, players should consider upgrading the weapons that are most popular with their squadmates to make them more powerful and effective. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F so that he can unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when used with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method of making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the tier of the gem is, the greater its secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or through finding Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The quality of a diamond can be improved by the Jeweler, in stages that range from Crude to Royal. Based on the level of the gem it will give different stat boosts when inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

The Jeweler can craft all kinds of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones, which you must attain a certain level to get. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped by a different identical jewel without destroying it. However it is only possible to replace the jewels in an equipment piece only once.

The use of more jewels in a move will make it more smooth and is usually performed for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels also create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots doesn't cause harm as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. These are a small perk and are able to be swapped easily however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like aegis and traits, cannot be swapped out, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide a wide range of small, but beneficial advantages to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and by completing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

upgrade item is able to unlock is the cloak, which grants an unimportant but beneficial boost to speed of movement and evasion. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar way to how a player can acquire armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded, and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active even when the character is not in combat. This allows the hero to be more effective while inactive and also helps make up for a lack of a solid team or any slots from the talent tree that would normally be filled with hero's ideal statistics.

As a rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future. Also, consider items with desirable stats that aren't as significant as the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when you are looking to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It's better to upgrade one important stat instead of two subpar ones.

At the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one, while top and mid players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices can impact a hero's ability to control the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also discover other trinkets in form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or defeating an opponent. These can be viewed by selecting the relevant achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
