World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. The value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the levels of the item. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor is possible using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates the worth of the stats of an item really are. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

item upgrading to an item can increase its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could be used to give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, it must be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is therefore more beneficial in the early game than later ones since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it fails.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
