Kids Beds Bunk

Bunk beds provide drama to children's rooms and also give them a sense of adventure. To make bunks more appealing to children, Ms. Keenan often includes a ledge to hold books or an reading lamp in each sleeping space.

A lot of our kids' beds bunks can be converted to two twin beds in one, perfect if you plan to move your children to their own bedrooms at some point. Pick from finishes such as white, brushed gray and rich walnut.

Stairs or Ladders

You can choose between stairs or ladders when you are choosing bunk beds for children. Ladders are easy to install and are also less expensive. They also offer an easy way to get into the top bunk bed. They are also more secure than stairs as they provide a wider surface for children to walk on and include a handrail that is integrated. Ladders also usually have grooves on the steps which help prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.

If you prefer the design and appearance of stairs, they could make a more elegant addition for your bunk bed. Staircases can also be used in rooms that are small as they don't protrude as ladders. They are typically made of metal or wood and can complement a variety of bedroom styles. Some staircases have integrated storage drawers. These are ideal for adding more space to the bunk bed.

When choosing between a ladder and stairs take into account the age of your child. It is recommended that no one sleep on the top bunk under the age of 6, children who are comfortable climbing vertically may be better off with stairs rather than a ladder. Additionally should you be planning on using your bunk bed as guest beds for smaller children or for adults with a mobility issues stairs are the best choice.

A straight staircase that runs along the side of the bed requires 95" of space each side. If you don't have enough space, you could opt for the u-shaped stairs that does not require as much room however it still allows you to reach the top bunk in a safe and securely. Some beds come with the option of removing the stairs when not in use, which reduces their footprint and makes them more versatile for rooms with multiple uses. You can also find staircases that connect to the end of the bed and eliminate the requirement for a separate handrail and makes it easier for children to climb up and down.

Guard Rails

Guard rails let children climb into and out of their beds without assistance and provide them with a sense of independence and security. They must be set in a proper way to ensure that there aren't any gaps or loosening between guardrails and the bed's frame. If you decide to install guard rails, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and check them on a regular basis for any looseness or holes which could cause the entrapment.

Keep bunk beds clear of electrical appliances and other things that can become projectiles while your children are playing or sleeping. Also be sure to position bunks away from windows, as they could be a danger to fall if kids get up on the top of the bed.

You may want to install a nightlight on the ladder to light the way up and down if your child wakes at night to use the bathroom, or wake up due to the sound of a storm and are forced to leave their room.

Another great security feature for bunk beds is a safety net which can be placed on the top level to stop children from falling down when they're asleep or playing. This is a great idea especially for older children, who tend to sleep on the top bunk.

Guardrails must be securely attached to the bunk bed structure and not removed without the use of tools. Openings in the guardrails above the mattress foundation must not be larger than 3.5 inches to avoid strangulation and entrapment. Place the wedge block shown on Figure 1 in each of the openings in the topmost guardrail member, and above the mattress foundation. Apply a force of 33 lbf (147 N) in a direction that is perpendicular to the plane of the large edge of the block for 1 minute.

It's also an excellent idea to instruct kids not to hang anything on the guardrails or ladder such as belts, clothing and sports equipment. Instead a rack for clothes is recommended to ensure that these items aren't a strangulation risk for your child(ren). Make sure that no more than one child sleeps on the top bunk. This can lead to an unsafe imbalance and fall.

Mattresses

Take into consideration the age and size of your child when selecting a mattress for a bunk bed. kids bunk bed should last for at least eight years or until the children are no longer sharing a bedroom. You'll want to select one that can grow with your child and still provide adequate comfort as they grow older.

There are many options for bunk mattress sizes. They are typically twin or full size. If your child is suffering from asthma or allergies, choose an hypoallergenic mattress with a dust-mite barrier as well as a moisture-wicking cover. Kids are likely to experience lots of accidents and spills, so a mattress that has an antimicrobial layer can help to shield the foam from harmful bacteria and germs.

The comfort of your mattress is also important. Children weigh less than adults, which means they need a mattress that feels firm but also comfortable. Many hybrid and latex mattresses have one side that is firm and the other soft side to accommodate both children's requirements.

Memory foam mattresses work well for kids However, they're not the first choice as they can trap heat and may be too harsh on young spines. Consider a hybrid or a latex mattress that provides solid support and cooling infusions to your child or guests to rest comfortably.

A mattress with a low profile is typically the best choice for children's bunk beds. They are designed to be slimmer than standard mattresses and increase the height of the safety rail for the top bunk. They also minimize "filler" materials to provide the highest quality in slim designs.

If your child wants to try a mattress more hefty than a regular mattress, think about an hybrid or innerspring mattress with comfort layers above that can be removed or replaced as the child develops. These models will give you an idea of the longevity of the mattress as your child grows. You can also put in an extra bed skirt or mattress pad to prevent it from sliding. Some beds have side rails or lip built in to prevent this.

Storage

Bunk beds are an excellent option for saving space in shared rooms for children. Bunk beds are also a less expensive alternative to purchasing two large single beds. Many bunks also provide the option of a trundle bed that can be tucked away beneath the bottom bunk when it is not in use.

Consider putting up a kids' bedroom furniture set that includes bookshelves, desks, or dressers to maximize storage and space in a room that has a bunk bed. This will allow you to keep all your child's personal items such as clothing, toys and clothes in one place without cramming them into overstuffed closets or chests. The sets of kids bedroom furniture are sold at a variety of retailers. They are safe to use and meet federal standards.

Stacking bunks can be an opportunity for creativity, as children can transform the spaces below into secret spaces for play or cozy spaces. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked 6 bunks in this room to create the ultimate play space for kids that can be used for sleeping, playing and even superhero cape twirls. The room features a bubble wallcovering by Chasing Paper and a ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore Blue Jean to create the perfect escape.

If you are unable to build an stairwell to your bunk beds, a ladder is an option. These ladders are constructed with a combination Single Socket Flange, Single Socket Degree Side Outlet Fittings. They can be easily adjusted in order to increase or decrease distance between the ladder rungs. The ladder rungs can also be set directly on the ground rather than above, to make climbing easier.

Another method to maximize space in a room that has bunk beds is to install loft beds for kids that can be moved down to just above the floor. This allows you to slide dressers, desks or toy chests directly beneath the beds. This is a great method to maximize space in small bedrooms or large family homes where beds need to be capable of accommodating multiple sleepers.
