A Large Wood Burner May Release Harmful Particulates Into the Air

Wood burning stoves are fantastic to heat rooms, but new research suggests they release harmful pollutants into the air. These tiny particulates, PM2.5, have been linked to lung and heart issues as well as dementia.

This Ecodesign stove, which is DEFRA-approved, is a sleek and contemporary 5kW model that heats rooms quickly with very little lag time. The large flame view and airwash system also make this stove look stylish in any room.

The Blithfield

The Blithfield is a DEFRA-approved and EcoDesign-ready wood burner which perfectly blends modern and traditional styles. It features a large porthole-like glass that is kept clean with an airwash system. It's designed for both cooking and burning logs since it includes warming rack and a fiddle rail. This means that they are specially designed to meet the emission level of 2022 requirements of Ecodesign which is a UK-backed EU regulation that aims to improve the quality of our air.

This is made possible by pre-heated tertiary air being drawn in from the bottom of the stove and the burner's rate being controlled by a separate rotary air control that allows for extremely low emissions. Coupled with a DEFRA-approved and Smoke Control Area exempt firebox and the capability to burn wood with up to 20% moisture content, this is among the top large stoves on the market.

Stovax has taken the classic design of their Sheraton wood burning stove and incorporated it with a state-of-the-art high-efficiency and low emission combustion system to create a log stove that is a perfect fit in the traditional and contemporary designs. The stunning bevelled frame and cornicing of the stove contribute to its design while the modern design of the firebox permits an uncluttered burn. This makes it SIA Ecodesign compatible and suitable for smoke-control areas.

The Sheraton is available in two different versions one of which is a log-store model that fits flush into a fireplace breast with a chambered and a standard-leg model that can be inserted into an inglenook. Both models have a nominal output of 5kW and offer an excellent view of the fire through the large glass panel. The stoves are available in various finishes such as the matt black shown. This Ecodesign- and DEFRA-exempt Stovax product has three distinct features in its new clean burn system to attain its high efficiency. A combination of secondary heat retention glazing as well as combustion air jets and air flow diversion helps keep the internal temperatures high, resulting in a more complete combustion of the gas produced by the fuel. This reduces harmful emissions, and also reduces the amount of particles released into the air.

The result is a highly efficient stove that also has a stunningly large glass window which allows you to see the fire from inside. There is a choice of handles in different colors and a chrome pedestal that is curved to complement your interior. This top loading stove also features a large flat surface to place kettles and pans on.

Like all stoves made by Stovax, the Pengiun complies with the latest Ecodesign regulations and has passed all necessary tests and inspections. It is only able to burn wood and smokeless firewoods that are approved by DEFRA. If you burn unauthorised fuels you could be fined as much as PS1,000 per hour based on the amount of particles released into the air.

This is achieved with a new clean burn system that has been improved to include a new air supply that is inserted into the combustion chamber via jets and channels that are above the fire. The pre-heated air ignites the volatile gases produced by the fuel which results in a more complete burn and the reduction of harmful emissions. It also creates a cushion of air which is directed towards the glass, also known as an air wash, to give you a clear view of the flames.

This combination of systems ensures that the brand new Penguin stove is in compliance with the most stringent emission standards and is classified as an "Ecodesign" stove. It emits less than 20 mg/m3 when it burns wood and emits less than 16 mg/m3 when using smokeless fuels.

The Go Eco

While old-style wood burning stoves are popular research has proven that they emit microscopic sooty particles into the air. These are a known cause of poor air quality, which has been associated with lung and heart issues, dementia and breathing issues. Newer models are DEFRA-approved and made to higher standards, which means you can still enjoy a cozy fireplace at home.

The Go Eco large wood burner is a large version of the company's well-loved standard stove and is also DEFRA exempt and SIA Ecodesign ready, meaning it is already compliant with European emission limits that will be in force in 2022. It has a large opening to watch the flames, and an airwash system that keeps it clean. It has an 80% energy efficiency rating and a 5kW heat output. The larger model means it will fit in bigger chimney openings and is suitable for a variety of installation options.

It's as the name suggests it's the ideal large wood burner for those who love to camp, but it's equally suitable for any home installation. This dual fuel stove comes fully equipped to boil water, cook and even burn logs. It's an approved level five clearSkies stove, which means it produces 90% less pollution than an open flame and more than 80% less than a 10-year-old stove.

The GO ECO is a DEFRA-approved multi-fuel stove with an 80% efficiency rating and 5kW of heat output.
